Boots and Boards B&B |
'Boots and Boards' is in Silecroft, a small village just off the A595, a few miles north of the small town of Millom on the quiet west coast of Cumbria. The village lies in the Lake District National Park within easy walking distance of the fells to the east and the sea to the west. It has a railway station with a regular service from the main network via Lancaster or Carlisle. There's a warm welcome for all at 'Boots and Boards' - you don't have to be a climber or a kite-surfer! The little village of Silecroft makes a great base for whatever you want to do on your holiday. Cross House was built at the turn of the century and was a working farmhouse until the 1980s. It retains many of its original features including the magnificent open fireplace in the guest sitting room. The house has been sensitively adapted for bed and breakfast using environmentally friendly materials wherever possible. Breakfast can be as big or small as you choose: local Cumberland sausage and all the trimmings, a vegetarian option, or just toast and Fair Trade marmalade. Accommodation at 'Boots and Boards' is practical and comfortable. There are two twin rooms, a double room and a family room (double bed and bunk beds). All have en-suite shower and toilet rooms, and there is a bathroom with a beautiful Victorian cast-iron slipper bath, which everyone can share (though not all at once!). All the bedrooms have TV, and a self-service tea and coffee tray. Guests also have their own breakfast room and sitting room, with a log fire in the winter. Muddy boots, wet clothes and sports equipment are no problem – we have drying facilities and safe storage available. There is a thriving village pub serving excellent meals, a golf course, a riding stable, and easy access to a beautiful beach stretching as far as the eye can see. The Cumbria Coastal Way runs along the beach, which is also used by anglers, kite-surfers, canoeists, riders and dog walkers. The beach is great for children and safe for swimming, and there's plenty of room for everyone. It is possible to go fell walking or mountain biking straight from the house, and popular walking and climbing areas in Eskdale, Wasdale, the Duddon Valley, Langdale and Windermere are within a drive of 45 minutes or less. |

Miners Arms |
The Miners Arms Silecroft is a traditional period country pub which is situated within 2 minutes walking distance from Silecroft train station and is less than a mile walk to one of West Cumbria's lovely beaches. The business has undergone a complete re-furbishment during 2013 which includes the 4 en-suite guest bedrooms. To accompany the new surroundings the new owners have introduced a full new menu which features many excellent examples of local Cumbrian produce. All of our meals are homemade and produced to the highest possible standards by our dedicated kitchen team. During the summer months we have a lovely beer garden in which you can enjoy a nice cooling drink or sample something from our menu whilst still being able to enjoy the weather and with easy access to the train station there is no need to worry about bringing the car. Winter time is equally as enjoyable as your food and drink can be enjoyed whilst hiding away from the worst of the winter weather next to one of our two woodburning stoves - the best way to dry wet clothes after a 'refreshing' winter walk along the beach. On the bar we have a wide range of local and international beers with a focus on showing off some of the excellent ales produced by some of Cumbrias finest micro-breweries. We regularly have Ales supplied by Hawkshead Brewery, Cumbria Legendary Ales, Cumberland Breweries, Ulverston Brewing Company and Ennerdale Brewery as well as Hardknott Brewery which is based only 3.5 miles from our door and some from possibly the smallest brewery in the county Healeys at Loppergarth. Above all else the Sim family pride themselves in your enjoyment by providing the finest quality food and drink to be consumed in lovely surroundings along with very high standards of customer service. We would also like to organise your events so if you have any important dates coming up please contact us and we'll do all we can to accommodate your requirements from birthday buffets to a Wedding Breakfast we'll do all we can to make your occasion special. |
